A place for your homeschooler to make friends
90 minutes of play, creativity, and Spanish at The Spanish Playhouse in Providence. Games come first, the art project of the week comes next, and a child who speaks no Spanish yet is never lost.
The application is free. We read every one and write back within 3 business days to arrange a short visit.
A homeschooling family, teaching what we love
We are Julissa and Jorge, and the Playhouse is our family. We are Dominican, we are artists and singers, and we homeschool our own daughters. We celebrate art in every form we know: dance, theater, music, and paint. Spanish is the language our home lives in, and the Playhouse is how we share it.
We built our mornings to be simple and unhurried, a place where children can be children. You will always know who is with your child and what the morning holds, because we teach it ourselves. If that matters to your family the way it matters to ours, come meet us.
Your child arrives when the morning turns social
Our morning studio children finish their snack at 10:15 AM. That is exactly when your child walks in.
Arrive and settle
Your child walks in, changes into grip socks and puts their shoes in a cubby. Then they join the group.
Play with the group
The group plays outside when the weather allows and upstairs when it does not. Teachers keep the Spanish flowing and make sure every child is in on the game.
Make the project of the week
Everyone moves to the art table. Children make one real project each week with our teachers, and take it home.
Eat together, then pickup
The last twenty minutes are lunch for our morning children and a snack we provide for yours, all at one table. Pickup is at 11:45 AM.
Spanish, art & friends
Your child gets a group
Homeschool days are rich and quiet. Your child spends 90 minutes each week with the same small group and gains friends who are learning the same language at the same time.
No Spanish at home is needed
Our teachers speak Spanish, and they make sure no child is confused. A complete beginner keeps up from the first visit, and a heritage speaker gets to use what they know.
It fits your week
Come 1 day a week or 5. Mornings stay yours for the work you do at home. The Playhouse covers the Spanish block and the art block in one visit.
Pick your days
Tuition is per session. The more days your child comes, the less each day costs.
| Days per week | Per session | Per week |
|---|---|---|
| 1 day | $70 | $70 |
| 2 days | $65 | $130 |
| 3 days | $58 | $174 |
| 4 days | $54 | $216 |
| 5 days | $50 | $250 |
Pay monthly or by the season
New families begin with a ten week block, so both of you can be sure it fits. Tuition is billed in equal monthly payments with automatic payment, and your first month is due when you enroll. Families who prefer one payment can pay the season in advance.
We count the real days
Your tuition reflects the actual sessions on the calendar for the days you choose, from your start date to June. Holidays are never billed. There is no application fee.
Every family starts with an application
We keep the group small and thoughtfully matched, so we meet every family before we offer a seat.
Apply
Tell us about your family and your child. It takes about 5 minutes and costs nothing.
We reply
We read your application and write back within 3 business days.
Interview and visit
We meet you for a short conversation. Your child comes for one Morning Social as a guest, and we both see how it feels.
Enroll
You pick your days and start date. Your first month is due at enrollment, and automatic monthly payments handle the rest.
"Raising our child to learn two languages is a priority for us, and we're so grateful to have found a place that supports that goal in such a nurturing and respectful way."
Tell us about your family
The application is free and takes about 5 minutes. We read every one and write back within 3 business days to arrange a short visit during the Morning Social.
Some families want the whole morning. Some want the afternoon.
The Morning Studio
Spend the whole morning in Spanish. Children paint and sing and act out stories, and every week includes a private piano lesson and a full hour of dance. Books, materials and snacks are included.
Apply for the Morning StudioSpanish Club
Come for the afternoon, as many days a week as fit your family. Art and play with a small bilingual group, with days chosen each ten week session.
Before you apply
My child speaks no Spanish. Will they be lost?
No. The setting is bilingual, so your child always knows what is happening. Teachers make the meaning clear through movement and song, and games are the easiest place in the world to start a language. Most children understand the routine by the second visit.
Why do you interview families?
The group is small and the children already know each other. We meet every family so that each new child lands well, and so that you know exactly what you are joining.
Can my child move up to the full morning later?
Yes, when a spot is available. Families who move to the Morning Studio during their ten weeks have their unused Morning Social sessions credited toward tuition.
Do I pack a lunch?
No. The last twenty minutes are lunch for our morning children, and your child eats a snack we provide at the same table. Pack a lunch only if you would rather they eat their own.
What does my child bring?
A water bottle with their name on it. We provide the grip socks and the snack.
Is this childcare?
No. The Morning Social is a 90 minute Spanish enrichment experience. We are not a childcare program, and families arrange any care they need outside our hours.
Come see the morning for yourself
Apply and we will write back within 3 business days. If you would rather ask something first, write to us at info@thespanishplayhouse.com and a real person answers.
